ANITKABIR / MAUSOLEUM OF ATATURK

“Peace at home, peace in the World”, once said Ataturk who dedicated almost his life to his nation and spent many years in the wars and to build a new country. He was born in Thessalonike (Salonica) where in Grece now, in 1881. He educated in military school and joined the Ottoman army.

He spent his youth in the fronts even in the WW1. While the Ottoman Empire was collapsing, Ataturk stayed determined against the allies and he started a journey, travelling all around Anatolia to persuade his nation for the salvation war in 1919. After his long studies and meeting, Ataturk started the war to save his nation, finally, they founded the republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923. He was elected as the first president of Turkey and after 15 years, he passed away at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul on 10 November 1938 when he was 57. His body was placed first at Etnography Museum until Anitkabir/Mausoleum of Atatürk was completed.

The mausoleum took nine years, was designed by architects Emin Onat and Ahmet Orhan Arda in 1945. The materials were brought from different parts of Turkey.  Travel. Every parts of the Mausoleum were given names as; Road of Lions, Ceremonial Plaza, Hall of Honor, Peace Park, Independence Tower, Female Statue group, Freedom Tower, Male statue group, Mehmetçik Tower, Victory Tower, Peace Tower, 23 April Tower, Tower of Reforms, Misak-ı Milli (National Pact) Tower.
