The Ghost Town (Kayaköy in Turkish) is an old Greek Village with hundred stone houses streching side by side and never obstructing the other. The Greek inhabitants migrated to Greece after the “Exchange Population” between Turkey and Greece in 1920’s.
There are churches survived from the Greek times; one is called Taxiarchis which is located on the upper part of the village. The other one is called Panagia Pirgiotissa, located on the western side. The second church was used as a mosque until the 1960’s.
The former name of the village was Levissi which is the oldest and the biggest well-preserved Greek settlement on the South of Aegean. When you walk among the stone houses, you can imagine the ancient daily life of those people.
