Istanbul was conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed 1453. He was 21 when he conquered Constantinopolis. He became sultan when he was 19 after his father Sultan Murad died.
The capital city was Edirne and Istanbul was stucked between the Ottoman lands. Sultan Mehmed aimed to unite his empire by getting Istanbul. He was well-educated, speaking seven languages, engineer, poet, cartographer and very toleranted his people.
No doubt he was the leader of Renaissance. He prepared his army then marched towards Istanbul on 28 march 1453 and started siege the city.
