The Suleymaniye Mosque was built by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1551-1557. The mosque was designed by the famous architect Mimar Sinan. The mosque is located on one of the seven hills of Istanbul. It has four minaretes and has ractangular plan like the other classical Ottoman mosques. The Suleymaniye Mosque consits of madrasa, library, market, tombs, garden. The dome has 32 windows, it is 53 meters height, 27,5 diameters and four huge cloumns are supporting the dome.
The two minaretes are 56 meters and the other two minaretes 76 meters height. The mosque can be visited except prayer times. Suleiman the Magnificent and his beloved wife Hurrem are buried next to each other in seperate tombs. The architect Sinan (1490-1588) is buried next to Suleymaniye Mosque.
