ISTANBUL CARPET MUSEUM

Istanbul Carpet Museum is located near the entrance of Topkapi Palace and attached to Hagia Sophia. The section was added to Hagia Sophia during sultan Ahmed I’s the reign and was designed by the architect Sedefkar Ahmed Aga, who was also the Blue Mosque architect.

This was added as the sultan’s pavilion, where the sultans used to enter the mosque to pray. The section was converted into a museum where priceless Turkish carpets are being exhibited.

62 pieces of carpets are on display and being replaced with the others anytime. The oldest carpet, which the Turks made, is from the 14th century in Istanbul.
