Seven Towers Castle-Yedikule Fortress

The Yedikule Fortress is located in the Fatih district of Istanbul near the Sea of Marmara. The fortress was built by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in 1458 and was enclosed in the section of the ancient city walls of Constantinopolis. The fortress became a royal dungeon where they imprisoned the royal persons.

The place of fortress was formerly the principal entrance gate to Constantinopolis. Two towers and two pylons of the former Porta Aurea, the triumphal arch, were inherited from the Byzantine city walls. Today, Seven Towers Castle hosts festivals, and ceremonies, and also as an open-air museum.
