The old mosque is one of the Ottoman early square-plan mosques and was built by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed I. in 1414. Edirne is the second capital city of the Ottoman Empire, and it is said that the Ottoman Sultans began to pray for Friday ceremonials in the Old Mosque.
The mosque has nine domes, two minarets, and many calligraphies on the walls.
