TLOS ANCIENT CITY

Tlos ancient city is situated in the Fethiye district on the edge of the Tauros Mountain range. According to records, the city’s name derives from Tlawa from the Hittite language, then converted to Tlos by the Lycians. Moreover, the Hittites identified Twala to express Dawala land. The last research has shown us that the first inhabitants lived here even before the Hittites.

Tlos has many rock tombs and one of them is remarkable with the relief of Bellerophon and Pegasus. Inside the rock tomb, which consists of two side-by-side burial chambers and a front chamber at the entrance, there are death beds, as in other graves.

Tlos ancient city possesses an ancient theater, stadium, a basilica from the Byzantine era, and an Ottoman citadel on top of the hill.
