Istanbul Adam Mickiewicz Museum

Adam Mickiewicz; a poet, drama writer, patriotic, the writer of Poland’s national epics, and is accepted as the greatest representative of romanticism in Polish literature. He was compared with George Byron and Johann Wolfgang Goethelye, who were some of the most popular authors of the second half of 19th of Europe. He joined the Ottoman army to organize the Polish regiments in Crimea and fought against the Russians. He passed away at his own apartment in Istanbul on 26 December 1855.

In 1870, a fire devastated almost the Pera neighborhood, including his apartment, where he spent his last years and passed away. In the same year, the apartment was purchased by a Polish aristocrat Josef Ratynski then was reconstructed. The apartment was converted into a museum on behalf of his name in 1955. The museum houses his belongings.
