The Suleymaniye Mosque was built by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1551-1557. The mosque was designed by the famous architect Mimar Sinan. The mosque is located on one of the seven hills of Istanbul. It has four minarets and has a rectangular plan like the other classical Ottoman mosques. The Suleymaniye Mosque consists of a madrasa, library, market, tombs, garden. The dome has 32 windows, 53 meters in height, 27,5 diameters, and four huge columns supporting the dome.
The two minarets are 56 meters, and the other two minarets are 76 meters in height. You can visit the mosque except for prayer times. Suleiman the Magnificent and his beloved wife Hurrem are buried next to each other in separate tombs. The architect Sinan (1490-1588) is buried next to Suleymaniye Mosque.
