The Ottoman Sultan Selim III firstly built Yıldız Palace for his mother in 1789-1807. But the palace became the central administration palace by Sultan Abdulhamid II in 1876-1909. Unlike the other Ottoman palaces, Yıldız Palace has humble architecture and atmosphere.
Yıldız Palace has the largest garden among the Ottoman palaces. It is known that Sultan Abdulhamid brought many different animals to his garden from all over the world. Once, the palace had a porcelain factory during the Ottoman time, and many of them are on display in the palace. Moreover, there are many woodworks made by Sultan Abdulhamid in the palace. Yıldız Palace is a museum today.
