The Ottoman Sultan Mehmed conquered Istanbul in 1453. He was 21 when he conquered Constantinopolis. He became sultan when he was 19 after his father, Sultan Murad, died.
The capital city was Edirne, and Istanbul was stuck between the Ottoman lands. Sultan Mehmed aimed to unite his empire by getting Istanbul. He was well-educated, speaking seven languages, engineer, poet, and cartographer, and tolerated his people.
No doubt he was the leader of the Renaissance. He prepared his army, then marched towards Istanbul on 28 March 1453 and started a siege of the city. After two months, Constantinopolis passed to Ottoman Empire on 29 May 1453. This museum, Panorama 1453, displays the whole story of the siege and the conquest of Constantinopolis.
