The Ottoman Sultan Abdulmejid built the Ortakoy Mosque in 1854. The mosque is originally known as Büyük Mecidiye Camii (Grand Mecidiye Mosque).
The Ortakoy Mosque is standing next to the Bosphorus Bridge, making it so popular and one of the most well-known fıgures of Istanbul. The mosque challenges the grand Ottoman Mosques with its two tiny minarets, elegant gothic, rococo architecture. Ortakoy Mosque is also an imperial (Selatan) mosque like the others.
The architect Nigogos Balyan preferred European architecture rather than classical Ottoman. The dome color is pink, and the minbar and mihrab are marble. You should better see the Ortakoy Mosque from the Bosphorus.
